The Call

Soon after the conference, the connection between the call upon the ministry – and the natural Spring of Gihon was made and believed to be inspired by the Holy Spirit.

It is with awe, wonder and a never fully arriving grasp to even attempt to tell of any series of events that in retrospect confirm to the heart of even one….that the “thing” is of God–of His Spirit and not a work of the flesh (man apart from God).

It takes time (lots of it often) to be able to perceive with even squinting eyes that the Lord  was/is writing a backstory in and through our lives and we (the ones completely at His mercy) are never fully aware of the script until to some degree it begins to unfold, as only He can from eternity orchestrate and make His heart plans known .

It is a true and dreadful thing that a person—countless many–can live entire lives missing the knowing of Him and discovering, even to some small degree, His ways–let alone the gift of eternal life He purchased for one and the all.  Yet (in time) kings will shut their mouths on account of Him.  Isaiah 52: 15 (partial).

For those who will seek Him, however  (seek and you will find; Matt 7:7-8) we come to know that it seems He is always doing more than we know, reveals less than we’d prefer at times, and yet all the while has the goal of our ultimate good in mind.  We learn His ways in the “step by step” leading.

This is the pattern He required of those delivered out of Egypt, led through the wilderness and given promises of a much better place ahead.  He chose in His wisdom not to reveal just how He planned to provide (manna from heaven; water from a rock)  only that He would be faithful–and that He was nothing like the harsh, hard-hearted task-master they had just been rescued from.  Then, now…same God, same pattern it seems in the faith journey of this age.  Step by step. moment by moment He leads….if we’ll trust and let Him.  (We’re walking by faith and not by sight).  Then we can look back and know that we know– it was Him.  When all is said and done, we wouldn’t want to walk this life any other way.  In the “unknowing” we come to “know”.  It’s an awesome and overwhelming reality.

Here is a portion of Spring of Gihon Ministries backstory:

Founder, Faith Levine, who was then leading worship at a Messianic congregation in the Kansas City area,  had been invited with the team to minister in a small group setting at a conference in Pennsylvania during the week of July 4, 2003.   As this team had no “name” several were seeking the Lord on the matter.  Was there a “name” the Lord desired?   Faith had a sense that it was connected with water or a fountain somehow, but no clarity was  initially forthcoming.

Several days into the conference, Faith decided to join a friend who was headed to a prayer group gathering.   Unsure whether or not she was supposed to “pray for others” or that “others would be praying for her”, the Lord revealed that she was to ask for prayer from the group.   She believed then she was to mention to the group that she had been praying over the name of the worship team.  She also sensed the Lord prompting her to pray for “protection over the music He was giving”; and so she shared the prayer requests.

As the three intercessors prayed, they spoke aloud of the “impressions” they were receiving.  All three were in unison about what they were “seeing” and one by one gave a more full view of what, it is believed, was the initial call on this ministry. In time, it would become evident that the “name” was not for the current worship team, but for the ministry itself–and a ‘team’ as it were He would raise up in time.

One of the intercessors felt He was “getting” three things that were connected, but he was unsure exactly how:  Spring of Gihon, Hezekiah’s Tunnel and the Pool of Siloam.   None present knew anything about this actual natural spring, but as Faith and others later searched the scriptures, they discovered that it was the waters flowing from the Gihon Spring that King Hezekiah diverted (with a tunnel he commissioned be built) in order to protect that water source from enemy attack. (2 Chronicles 32:1-33, particularly v. 30).   Additionally, it was learned that these natural waters are the very waters that empty into the ancient Pool of Siloam–the pool in which Jesus/Yeshua directed a man, blind from birth, to wash in; and the man received his sight.   Other verses that reference  Gihon are:  I Kings 1:33-39.  It is unsure if the Gihon Spring is related to the Gihon River mentioned in Genesis 2:13 as one of the rivers flowing out of the Garden of Eden, but it is interesting to note.

Soon after the conference, the connection between “the call” upon the ministry and the natural Spring of Gihon was made and believed to be inspired by the Holy Spirit.

An immediate confirmation came via a “time tested” intercessor on the opposite end of the country–whom the Lord had awakened in the pre-dawn hours of July 4–12 hours before the prayer meeting (and unaware that it would take place) with a clear message, vision and specific scriptures– all of which worked together to confirm and instill  confidence when this was later communicated–that what the “three” had spoken were true prophetic words, vision and calling and that which God would faithfully bring to pass in His way and in His time.

All of this was meditated upon and prayed through for many years between the “call” and “launching” even as ongoing “trainings, testings and trials” ensued.   The Lord Himself, kept the vision alive as bits and pieces unfolded, ministry rela6tionships formed, little open doors here and there presented, testings and trials and the ongoing work of sanctification became a new “normal” .  Faithfully He orchestrated the “too numerous to count” small and large events that bore witness to His faithfulness.

We consider the “birth of the ministry” then, to be July 4, 2003 and hold to the Biblical pattern and Kingdom reality that God consistently uses His “natural” (physical/material) creation to illustrate Spiritual realities.

Note:  That is a very brief word on a hugely significant topic!    Suffice it to say, we pray that any “outpouring” He chooses to use this ministry for, will be “pure”, as the Gihon Spring is pure, ancient and– still flowing water–that nothing will defile or pollute the vessels of our lives through which He chooses to “pour out”;  that He Himself will protect us and the ministry from the realities of spiritual warfare that come against any work of God,;  and that He will have His desire should He choose to heal, deliver or in any other way minister to those He invites to bathe in His true and eternal, life-giving, cleansing, purifying, healing waters–presence of His Ruach Ha Kodesh (Holy Spirit).  All points to Him, is Him and forever all glory is His.

“Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus (Yeshua) stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let Him come to Me and drink. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:37-38

Finally, concerning the literal and natural “Pool of Siloam“…

Several years following the 2003 birthing  a friend and artist, Rebekah Hare was inspired of the Lord to create a visual–a painting that depicted our general prayer over the ministry:  His Hand alone over all  (see the above banner for a portion of the much larger wok)  In her research for the painting, Rebekah happened upon several articles related to the–at that time unknown to us–2004 archeological discovery of the actual and ancient “Pool of Siloam“.   You can check out the links to the right (or below) for more information on  Hezekiah’s Tunnel, the Gihon Spring and the Ancient City of David as well.

The rediscovered  Siloam Pool is currently in various stages of excavation.   Rebekah’s painted depiction utilized reference photos of the original 2004 excavation site.   This by the way, was reported by many reliable sources as a monumental, historical find and authenticated as the actual pool–contrary to the site previously thought to be the ancient “Pool of Siloam“.  For the purposes of this ministry, Rebekah’s work beautifully captures both a visual of the actual pool as it might appear–with all blockage to the flow of pure spring water removed–and again, the spiritual reality of call and prayers in agreement that His Hand alone to be upon every detail of the ministry.

Our ‘logo’ below was created by web designer, Brandon Wilson and depicts Spring of Gihon waters flowing through Hezekiah’s tunnel, inspired by photos from the actual site.
